Great week in not very sunny Portugal with the brilliant @universidadedeaveiro symphony orchestra in a side-by-side project with musicians from @orquestra_das_beiras Fantastic Sibelius 2, a premiere by Martin Ellerby, and wonderful to bring Joly Braga Santos’s viola concerto back to life a few days after the centenary of his birth. António Pereira soloist.
Looking for your next conducting masterclass? Why not apply to join me in Sofia in April @allegrafestival for 7 days with professional orchestra (8 sessions plus ensemble classes). Great to be making our first @rncmlive Wind Orchestra CD since 2019 (some pandemic thing got in the way) featuring the music of Martin Ellerby. We played some of the rep in a lunchtime concert today, including the world premiere of a lovely little lament for Mary, Queen of Scots. Nice to have the chance to remind the English (on Burns Day) that they still haven’t been forgiven!
Amazing performance of The Dante Project by Thomas Ades tonight @royaloperahouse conducted by @rncmlive alumnus @jlo_conductor Phenomenal music played and danced brilliantly
Super cool concert incoming tomorrow. @rncmlive Wind Orchestra in great form for our Shades of Blue concert. We start and finish with Bernstein’s iconic Prelude, Fugue & Riffs and @frank_ticheli modern classic, Blue Shades. It’s fantastic to have @jamesleeiii_composer in Manchester this week for the European premiere of his clarinet concerto with Gabor Varga (plus @bbcphilharmonic @alexdariescu playing his new piano concerto on Saturday). We feature @rncmalumni @leo__geyer with his wild, unhinged, jazz influenced work Vortex. We also premiere I wish I knew how to Fish by current student @hzyskowska_music and the UK premiere of Las Tijeras de Matisse by @enriquehernandis Join us! https://www.rncm.ac.uk/performance/rncm-wind-orchestra-shades-of-blue/
